Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to join our inpatient care team on night shift. The Med Surg RN provides observation and inpatient care for patients admitted to the Medical Surgical Unit. Responsibilities include assessing and treating patient conditions, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient progress, educating patients and families, and collaborating with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure safe, high-quality care. This role is ideal for nurses who enjoy delivering comprehensive patient care in a collaborative hospital environment. Schedule Highlights Full-time position (36 hours per week) Night shift schedule Rotating weekends and holidays may be required 12-hour shifts typical in inpatient nursing environments Key Responsibilities Patient Assessment & Care Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing monitoring of clinical conditions Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans Provide observation and inpatient nursing care for medical and surgical patients Monitor patient response to treatments and adjust care as needed Clinical Interventions Initiate treatments including IV therapy, oxygen therapy, catheter placement, splints, and other ordered procedures Administer medications safely using the seven rights of medication administration Operate infusion pumps and monitor IV therapies Patient Education & Support Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions Provide guidance on recovery, wellness, and follow-up care Support patients and families through hospitalization and recovery processes Care Coordination Collaborate with physicians, hospitalists, surgeons, and interdisciplinary care teams Ensure continuity of care and support safe patient transitions and discharge planning Communicate patient condition changes promptly to providers Documentation & Quality Compliance Document assessments, treatments, and patient progress in the electronic health record Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives Join a Hospital That Feels Like Family – In a Town That Feels Like Home Pagosa Springs Medical Center is an award-winning, independent Critical Access Hospital serving the residents and visitors of Archuleta County and the surrounding region. QualificationsEducation Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program BSN preferred but not required Experience Minimum two (2) years of Med Surg experience strongly desired Licensure & Certifications Current Colorado RN license in good standing Current AHA BLS certification for healthcare providers ACLS certification required (or must obtain within 3 months of hire) PALS certification required (or must obtain within 3 months of hire) Skills Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize care effectively Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation Excellent communication and teamwork abilities Proficiency with electronic health record systems Work Environment Inpatient hospital unit with frequent patient interaction Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and medical equipment Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting, and assisting patients Compensation & Benefits Base Compensation Range: $32.60 - $50.40 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader. Shift Differential Pay: Night Shift Differential: Employees who work majority of hours between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. receive a Night Shift Differential of an additional $5.00 per hour.
