This position coordinates and performs both clerical and clinical functions within the Radiation Oncology department, which includes managing patient charts, scheduling appointments, and handling telephone communications. Responsibilities also involve assisting physicians with procedures, monitoring patient vitals, and maintaining medical supplies and statistical data.
The minimum education requirement is flexible, accepting any combination of formal education or prior work experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Candidates must possess at least two years of healthcare experience and maintain current CPR certification.
This position coordinates and performs both clerical and clinical activities and functions of the Radiation Oncology department.
Prepare and maintain patient charts to include insurance, registration, correspondence, laboratory and radiology reports, track and request patient records, slides and films; document as necessary in the charts. Schedule and coordinate appointments, scans and tests; confirm appointments; notify appropriate departments, in writing, of daily and weekly patient schedules. Receive all telephone calls coming into the Radiation Oncology office; assist patients, physicians and others with patient-related matters; relay diagnostic test results to patients per physician's discretion; conduct follow-up phone calls to patients with problems and "no-shows". Assist physician with procedures such as wound care, catheter removal, Cylinder or Tandem/Ovid removal. Perform BP, TPR and weight on each patient; responsible for alerting physician of abnormalities. Perform medical history on each patient prior to being seen by physician. Prepare monthly statistical data to be reported to Administrator of TCSC. Maintain medical supplies in each exam room and office supplies in clerical area. Perform pre sterilization processing for minor equipment utilized in Radiation Oncology. Deliver/Retrieve minor equipment form Sterile Processing when needed. Monitor patient insurance for hospital admission pre-certification requirements; assist with reimbursement issues as needed. Complete forms required for continuity of care, such as patient insurance, home health and hospice. Precertifies insurance coverage for procedures and treatments ordered by the physician. Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Education: None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED. Minimum Experience: Two (2) years of healthcare experience. Licensure Requirement: CPR required.
