This role serves as the primary point of contact for coordinating biopsy services across the continuum, managing patient navigation from screening to diagnosis in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Responsibilities include tracking schedules, facilitating communication between providers, arranging necessary testing, and providing procedure-specific education to patients and families.
Candidates must be a graduate of a CCNE or NLNAC accredited school of nursing, hold a current Tennessee Registered Nurse license, and possess BLS certification. A minimum of three years of nursing experience is required, preferably involving radiology services or multiple care areas.
Summary: This position serves as the single point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to provide resources and assistance with clinical access and supportive care services offered within the healthcare system. The primary focus of this role is to navigate patients from screening to diagnosis using expertise to coordinate between primary care physicians and specialists while tracking interventions and outcomes. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Responsible for overall coordination of biopsy services throughout the continuum in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. Functions as the primary point of contact for patients, families, and physicians. Tracks and schedules patients requiring biopsy to obtain diagnosis, providing follow up to ensure that proper diagnosis is obtained to include repeat biopsy ,if indicated. Collaborates with procedural departments to expedite scheduling of biopsy. Contacts patients undergoing outpatient biopsy the day prior to their appointment to reiterate pre-procedure instructions. Facilitates interaction and communication with the health care staff and providers Arranges for patient testing and appointments to include pre-admit testing when applicable. Documents medical information using the appropriate forms and/or electronic applications. Tracks interventions and outcomes Provides procedure specific education to both patients and families Identifies and documents individual patient’s education barriers. Acts as an advocate for patients and families. Identifies obstacles and collaborates with team members for solutions to issues affecting compliance. Notifies Medical Director of complex patient care issues or concerns. Attends Cancer Conference meetings as assigned by Director. Demonstrates knowledge of the Tennessee State Nurse practice Act that follows the statutes and regulations therein. Demonstrates appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and department activities in accordance with the Tennessee State Nurse Practice Act. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed. JOB SPECIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts and techniques of the nursing profession with special emphasis on oncology nursing. Graduate of CCNE or NLNAC accredited school of nursing. LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: Current license as registered nurse in the State of Tennessee BLS certification required. Membership in Nurse Navigator or Oncology Nurse Navigator organization desired within 1 year of employment. EXPERIENCE: 3 years nursing experience, preferably in multiple care areas and/or radiology services.

Knowledge of Radiology modalities and rationales including CT, MRI, and all image guided biopsy procedures and post procedures care. Highly effective organizational, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work autonomously. Analytical skills to gather and summarize information or planning and development Ability to multi-task, prioritize, think independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines. Knowledge of WTH policies and procedures as acquired by 3 month probationary period.
