The Charge Desk Receptionist is responsible for taking vital signs, scheduling appointments, and assisting with clinical procedures. They also manage laboratory responsibilities and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Elk Grove Village, IL 60007Role and Responsibilities Duties of clinical medical assistants include, but are not limited to, taking vital signs of patients, conducting/assisting with in-office screening tests, collecting and preparing specimens to send to diagnostic laboratories, recording medical allergies/medications, maintain examining rooms, and ordering and stocking of supplies. Medical Assistants must communicate with patients, visitors and staff in a professional and caring manner. Schedule patients for appointments – port flushes, injections, fast track, MD. (RN only appointments to be outside the hours of 10 am and 2 pm.) Monitor fax machine and distribute to appropriate clinician. Monitor and maintain flow of sub-waiting room. Assign charts as needed to maintain clinic flow. Track physician board. Answer phone and triage calls appropriately. Handle nursing paperwork such as XXXXXXXXXXX Maintaining laboratory start up and closing logs. Stocking & cleaning examining rooms & treatment rooms at the beginning and end of clinic and as needed throughout the day. Clean exam rooms and make sure they are prepared for the next patient. Placing patients in exam rooms, including assisting with wheelchair and cart transfers.
Vital signs: Temperature, blood pressure, respiration, pulse, weight and height on all patients. Orthostatic vital signs and pulse oximetry, when appropriate. Document in EMR. Obtaining or updating allergy and medication list. Document in EMR. Injections as needed. Perform EKG’s. Phlebotomy including blood cultures. Instructing patients on UA/C&S and Hemoccult collection. Processing of molecular testing, occult cards and urine dips. Basic use of the blood analyzer, coagulation instrument, glucometer. Including running of CBC’s/INR’s/glucose, start-up, shut down and QA procedures, as well as troubleshooting. Perform calibration and linearity and proficiency testing as assigned by lab manager.

Reference
Lab: (a) Should be able to look up which tubes are needed for testing and test codes; (b) Will be responsible for making sure all patients and tests are entered correctly into computer; (c) Keeping all equipment for reference lab stocked; and (d) Retrieving results from reference labs. Assist physicians with all procedures. Stocking patient refrigerator and refreshment area and keeping it clean, as directed by site-supervisor. The MA will have a main office for which they will usually be working; however, he/she must be flexible enough to work at all locations as needed and have reliable transportation. Comply with the OSHA regulations Participate in the NWOH safety program Attend all mandatory trainings & complete quizzes as assigned. Laboratory responsibilities as follows: Follow all laboratory procedures for specimen collection and processing. Follow all established laboratory testing procedures. Follow all laboratory reporting policies Maintain records documenting that proficiency test samples were treated exactly as patient samples. Adhere to the laboratories quality control policies Document all quality control, environmental and function checks, and maintenance performed. Follow the laboratory’s policy if test systems are not within established levels of performance. Document all corrective actions taken. Identify problems that may adversely affect testing and either correct the problem or notify the director, Lab Manager or Site Supervisor. Complete all required laboratory training and competency offered by employer
Laboratory
Duties: Perform phlebotomy, and inform the patients of all specimen collection directions. Process specimens for testing and transport according to policy. Perform and document daily environmental, maintenance and function checks. Perform and document quality control each day on the tests performed prior to testing patient samples. Perform testing only when all established a laboratory performance criterion has been met. Perform the following tests according to the laboratory's established procedures: Complete Blood Count (CBC) Pro-time - Waived Glucose - Waived Occult Blood – Waived Urine Dipstick – Waived Test all proficiency testing samples as patient samples. Document all corrective actions taken. If unable to correct any problems alert the director, laboratory manager, site-supervisor. Disinfect the countertops daily. Ensure that all reports are seen by the ordering physician. Monitor the testing going to the reference lab for timely completion of all tests ordered
