Mount Laurel Animal Hospital is seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and versatile Certified Veterinary Technician to join our Rotating Specialty Team.This role is designed for an experienced technician who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys variety in their workday, and is confident supporting multiple specialty and emergency departments.

As a Rotating Specialty Technician, you will float between departments including Surgery, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Anesthesia, Radiology, Emergency & Critical Care, Exotics, and Primary Care, providing essential technical support where it is needed most.This is a critical hospital-wide support role that helps maintain appropriate staffing during short staffing periods, vacations, high-volume caseloads, schedule gaps, and other evolving hospital needs. The schedule is published in advance; however, this position does require significant flexibility, and last-minute changes to daily assignments or schedule needs should be expected.Because this role requires a highly qualified, experienced, and adaptable technician,

Position Overview

This role is responsible for providing advanced technical, nursing, anesthesia, and patient care support across multiple specialty, emergency, and hospital service areas. This individual works closely with veterinarians, boarded specialists, emergency doctors, fellow nursing staff, and department leadership to ensure patients receive safe, efficient, and high-quality care regardless of department assignment. This role requires strong clinical experience, excellent communication, the ability to adapt quickly to different teams and workflows, and the confidence to step into high-need areas with professionalism and sound judgment. The ideal candidate is dependable, collaborative, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast-paced specialty and emergency hospital environment.

A day at Mount Laurel Animal Hospital starts before you even walk through the doors. As you drive onto our beautiful working farm campus, you are greeted by some of the animals that make our hospital such a unique place to work including longhorns, emus, goats, pigs, and geese are all part of the experience. It is not your average trip into work, and that is just the beginning.

Forgot your coffee or breakfast on the way in? No problem. Our team enjoys access to a fully stocked breakfast bar along with free snacks available on site for staff, helping you start the day fueled and ready.

Once your shift begins, you will step into a fast-paced, team-centered hospital environment where your skills truly matter. A typical day may include supporting a specialty service with appointments and procedures, assisting with diagnostic workups, monitoring anesthesia for advanced procedures, helping in surgery, supporting hospitalized patients, or stepping into ECC to assist with triage, admits, or patient care during specialty downtime. Throughout the day, you may rotate between departments based on hospital need, assist with anesthesia and patient monitoring, communicate with doctors and nursing teams, support client education, perform treatments, help maintain patient flow, and provide immediate support to areas experiencing high caseloads or staffing challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Provide skilled technical and nursing support across multiple specialty departments on a rotating basis

Float between Surgery, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Anesthesia, Radiology, ECC, Exotics and other assigned areas based on hospital need

Administer and monitor anesthesia for surgical, diagnostic, and specialty procedures while maintaining patient safety and comfort

Support the Emergency & Critical Care department in triage, admits, patient care, or other assigned roles during periods of specialty downtime or hospital need

Administer medications, perform treatments, and carry out veterinarian-prescribed procedures accurately and safely

Assist with diagnostics, sample collection, imaging, patient preparation, and procedure support.

Obtain patient histories and assist with client communication, discharge instructions, and patient care education

Maintain strict adherence to hospital protocols, safety guidelines, controlled drug procedures, and best practices for patient care and handling

Keep clinical workspaces clean, organized, stocked, and ready for patient care

Collaborate closely with veterinarians, boarded specialists, fellow technicians, assistants, CSRs, and support staff to ensure seamless patient care

Communicate effectively and compassionately with clients regarding care plans, procedures, treatment expectations, and discharge instructions

Adapt quickly to changes in daily assignments, workflow, caseload, and department needs

Provide immediate support to high-need areas during short staffing, vacations, high-volume periods, or unexpected schedule changes

Participate in training new staff, continuing education initiatives, and hospital-wide events as needed

Maintain accurate medical records, treatment notes, anesthesia records, procedure documentation, and client communication notes

Serve as a dependable, flexible, and professional resource to help maintain appropriate staffing and patient care standards across ECC and specialty services

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4+ years of veterinary technician experience, CVT preferred
  • Strong anesthesia experience required
  • Experience in specialty, emergency, surgery, anesthesia, or high-volume hospital medicine strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and confidently across multiple departments
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and remain calm under pressure in a high-volume setting
  • Comfortable adapting to changing daily assignments, workflows, and department needs
  • Flexible availability and willingness to adjust to last-minute schedule changes as hospital needs arise
  • Passion for providing empathetic, high-quality care to patients and their families
