The coder is responsible for abstracting clinical and demographic data and accurately applying codes for all inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services based on diagnoses, procedures, and conditions documented in the patient medical record. This involves using a computerized encoding system to assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT4/HCPCS, DRG, and APCs according to official coding and reimbursement guidelines.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma along with knowledge or experience in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT4/HCPCS coding, requiring a strong foundation in medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology. Preferred qualifications include working knowledge of the specified coding systems, high clerical accuracy, strong organizational skills, and effective communication abilities.
POSITION PURPOSE The coder is responsible for abstracting all clinical and demographic data and accurately applying code assignment to all inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services with diagnoses, procedures and conditions as indicated in the patient medical record. Using a computerized encoding system, assigns ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT4/HCPCS, DRG and APCs in accordance with official coding and reimbursement guidelines from the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association, and the American Health Information Management Association. All work is carried out in accordance with the Health Information Management department and the Tenor Health approved policies and procedures POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education: High school diploma with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT4/HCPCS coding knowledge and or experience. Medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology required Experience/Specialized Skills/Aptitudes Incumbent must have working knowledge of the ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT/HCPCS coding systems or strong clinical background High degree of clerical accuracy Highly organized Statistically and data oriented Good interpersonal relationship skills, especially with medical staff Process-oriented Multi-tracked Find the fastest way to get things done with a high degree of accuracy Computer skills desirable Ability to communicate effectively Licenses/Certificates: CCS is preferred but will accept candidates with prior coding experience.
