About the role

The Nurse Extern assists patients with daily activities as delegated by the rehabilitation team, communicates concerns to nurses or therapists, and documents patient information in medical records. Responsibilities also include obtaining vital signs, reviewing treatments with patients and families, assisting with feeding, and helping maintain a clean patient environment.

Nurse Extern Career Opportunity Part Time schedule (6-6), 2 shifts per week. Must be within the final 6 - 9 months of a Registered Nurse (BSN or ADN) program.

Realize Your Vision as a New Registered Nurse Assists patients with daily activities as delegated by the rehabilitation team.

Communicates patient concerns and changes in condition to rehabilitation nurses or therapists.

Documents appropriate patient information in their medical records.

Obtains vital signs and records in the electronic medical record.

Performs special procedures including the collection of urine, stool, and sputum.

Reviews treatments/ADLs/hygiene with patients and families.

Assists patients with feeding and attends Therapeutic Dining Group as indicated.

Assists patients with body mechanics.

Helps maintain clean and healthy environment for the patient Assists with equipment care.

Qualifications

BLS (CPR) required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire within this role. Part-time or full-time active student status. Successful completion of the first term of nursing courses of a professional Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse program. Must be currently enrolled and in good academic standing in a professional Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse program. Initial term including didactic/skills lab must include fundamentals of nursing or course equivalent. Return of one or two (if available) instructor evaluations indicating satisfactory performance of fundamental nursing skills. Successful completion of preceptor tool and core competency at 90 days and annually. Must present proof of continued enrollment and passing grade in nursing classes each semester until graduation and remain in good academic standing. One year experience in inpatient clinical setting preferred.

Requirements

Candidates must be active part-time or full-time students who have successfully completed the first term of nursing courses for an RN or LPN/LVN program, including fundamentals of nursing. A current BLS (CPR) certification is required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and one year of inpatient clinical setting experience is preferred.
