The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to infants, children, and adolescents by assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and chronic illnesses while promoting health and wellness. This role involves performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, managing chronic conditions, and educating patients and families.
Candidates must possess a Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and hold current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in the state of practice. Required certifications include a National board certification as Pediatric Primary Care (CPNP-PC or PPCNP-BC), Family (FNP-C or FNP-BC), and a current DEA permit.
Perform thorough physical examinations and health assessments for children of all ages. Diagnose and treat common pediatric illnesses and injuries. Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as labs, X-rays, and screenings. Manage chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and developmental disorders. Provide immunizations, preventive care, and anticipatory guidance. Educate patients and families on nutrition, growth, development, and disease prevention. Coordinate referrals to specialists and community resources as needed. Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record. Participate in health promotion and disease prevention programs. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care. Qualifications Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred. Experience in pediatric primary care preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as Pediatric Primary Care (CPNP-PC) or (PPCNP-BC), Family (FNP-C) or (FNP-BC) Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
