The role involves providing 24-hour in-house coverage for Labor & Delivery, managing unassigned patients, handling emergency department consults, and attending to inpatient obstetric needs. Responsibilities include performing vaginal and cesarean deliveries, responding to obstetric emergencies, and collaborating with outpatient OB/GYNs for continuity of care.
Candidates must be Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology and eligible for Virginia medical licensure and DEA certification. The ideal candidate should be comfortable managing high-acuity obstetric care, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate a commitment to team-based care and patient safety.
UVA Health is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible OB/GYN Hospitalist to join a dedicated OB/GYN program. These roles are designed for physicians who prefer hospital-based obstetric care, predictable scheduling, and a strong emphasis on patient safety, teamwork, and work-life balance. These positions are hospital-based OB/GYN roles focused exclusively on inpatient obstetric and emergent gynecologic care. The laborist provides 24-hour in-house coverage for Labor & Delivery, supporting unassigned patients, emergency department consults, and inpatient obstetric needs.
The model is intentionally structured to improve patient outcomes, support nursing and multidisciplinary teams, and reduce call burden for community-based OB/GYN physicians.
