The technologist operates CT/X-Ray equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images utilizing the lowest possible radiation dose, while also explaining procedures and ensuring proper patient positioning and immobilization. Key duties include assisting Radiologists with invasive procedures, maintaining patient and personal radiation safety, administering contrast media under direction, and accurately managing documentation within PACS and EMR systems.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and be a graduate of an Accredited Diagnostic Imaging Program, holding ARRT(R) certification, with ARRT(CT) preferred. A minimum of one year of clinical experience in direct patient care is preferred, along with proficiency in CT requiring minimal direct supervision.

Performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required. Operates CT / X-Ray Equipment to make quality Images / radiographs of designated body parts, utilizing the lowest possible radiation dose. Responsibilities include knowledge of all CT/Radiology procedures, proper patient positioning, exposures, Utilization of PACS, implementation of patient charges, and assists physicians as required.
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Under the direction of a Radiologist, produces high quality radiographs on all patient age groups. Explains procedure to patient. Position and immobilize patient for procedure. Selects appropriate technical factors for specific body part. Review images for quality and accuracy of positioning. Willingly helps in other departments within Imaging whenever the need arises. Assists Radiologist with Invasive Procedures as needed. Sets up room properly for specific procedure. Practices principles of sterile technique Label items on trays in accordance with required Joint Commission standards. Selects appropriate procedure trays/instruments needed. Obtain images as requested by Radiologist to facilitate diagnosis of disease processes. Maintain Patient and Personal safety. Provides radiation protection to all patients as needed. Practices personal radiation safety measures to minimize annual occupational exposure levels. Follows principles of good body mechanics when lifting. Utilize appropriate transfer techniques for patient condition. Use two (2) identifiers approved by the hospital to verify patient identity. Utilizes lowest Dose possible in all exams. Administer appropriate Contrast media as directed by Radiologist. Administers IV contrast as directed by Radiologist.. Assess patient for possible contrast media sensitivity prior to beginning venipuncture. Performs venipuncture as required for procedures. Proper use of Power Injector. PACS Completes all exams timely in PACS and EMR Properly performs procedure for making patient CD’s, as well as verifies all information is on all CD’s before given out. Verify that written physician order matches order in PACS. Verifies all images are in PACS, scans any required documentation, and adds any additional information in notes section as needed. Trauma Procedures Prioritize sequence of exams to complete procedures in the shortest amount of time. Takes precautions to ensure that positioning for ordered examinations do not exacerbate the patients’ injuries. Produce quality images with a maximum amount of image detail. Knowledge of departmental trauma protocols. Completes procedures that must be cleared by a physician prior to moving patient for additional procedures. Practice standard precautions, anticipate exposure to blood and body fluids during trauma radiography.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: Education: High school diploma or equivalent Successful completion of the (ARRT) national certification exam required within 1 year of hire. License, Certification and/or Registration: ARRT(R) Required BLS must be obtained during orientation period Experience: Minimum of one-year clinical experience in direct patient care setting preferred. Requires proficiency at a technical level not requiring constant direct supervision in Radiology. Additional Skills/Abilities: Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing task frequently and quickly. Must be able to work in a team environment. Must be able to use a computer terminal, fax machine, and copy machine.
