About the role

The PRN Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely preparation and dispensing of medications, supporting pharmacy operations on an as-needed basis. The PRN Pharmacist is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely preparation and dispensing of medications within the healthcare facility. This role supports pharmacy operations on an as-needed basis and ensures compliance with all regulatory, safety, and quality standards.

The Pharmacist utilizes professional judgment and clinical expertise to review medication orders, perform drug utilization reviews, and provide consultation to healthcare providers and patients to promote optimal patient outcomes.

  • Key responsibilities
  • Compound and dispense medications in accordance with physician orders and established protocols
  • Review, verify, and interpret prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, and potential interactions
  • Perform Drug Utilization Reviews (DUR) to ensure safe and effective medication therapy
  • Respond to and manage incoming physician calls regarding medication orders, clarifications, and recommendations
  • Accurately enter and maintain patient and prescription data in pharmacy information systems
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local pharmacy laws and regulations
  • Monitor for adverse drug reactions, medication errors, and therapeutic duplications
  • Provide clinical guidance and medication counseling to healthcare staff and patients as needed
  • Maintain proper storage, security, and recordkeeping of medications, including controlled substances
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support patient care initiatives
  • Assist with inventory management, medication ordering, and stock maintenance as needed
  • Participate in quality assurance, safety initiatives, and performance improvement activities
