Responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses with patient care in the operating room. Duties include maintaining aseptic techniques, preparing sterile fields, and managing surgical instruments and supplies.
Requires a High School Diploma or GED and certification as a Surgical Tech with current BLS certification. Previous experience as a surgical technician is preferred.

General Purpose of Job: Under direction of a Physician or Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the care of patients in the Operating Room. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. Maintain knowledge and practice of aseptic technique. Assists the circulating nurse in the preparation of surgical procedures and during room turnovers between procedures. Prepares sterile field for surgical procedures, ensuring proper instruments and supplies are available for use. During the surgical procedure: Anticipation of needs for surgeon and passing of instruments and supplies; Functions as assistant, when needed; Obtains counts with circulating nurse; Cares for specimens according to procedure; Maintains proper care of instruments and supplies when procedure is finished. Maintains equipment, supplies and environmental safety. Maintains knowledge of current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation. Maintains standards by participating in in-services, committees, etc. Functions as preceptor to new associates and students. Job Requirements General Requirements Certified Surgical Tech Current BLS certification Work Experience Previous surgical tech experience preferred Education High School Diploma or GED Formal Aseptic Technique Training Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrate computer skills including word processing, databases and e-mail.
