The primary duties involve performing high-quality sonographic exams, obtaining detailed patient histories, and providing accurate interpretations of these exams. Responsibilities also include maintaining compliance, using universal precautions, documenting procedures in systems like PACS and EPIC, and ensuring patient communication throughout the process.
Candidates must be a graduate of a CAAHEP-approved School of Sonography and hold required certifications including ARDMS RDMS, American Heart Association BLS, and specific ARDMS Breast (BR) certification within six months. Preferred experience includes general, vascular, or breast scanning, and hospital settings.
Education: Required: Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) approved School of Sonography Licensure/Certification: Required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS); American Heart Association BLS; Required: Breast (BR) certification by ARDMS within six (6) months of hire: 7633 Breast Center (ELCCC) Required: Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification by ARDMS or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within twelve (12) months of hire: 7588 EDCC OP Cardiovascular Testing 7670 Radiology Ultrasound Experience: Preferred: Experience in scanning of general, vascular or breast exams; hospital experience Reports To: Supervisor, Manager or Director Supervises: N/A Ages of Patients: Neonate/ Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric Blood Borne Pathogens: High Potential Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected situations, Ability to communicate and interpret using medical terminology, Ability to communicate with patients, healthcare professionals, and staff to ensure clear and accurate exchange of information, Ability to create a welcoming environment for patients and visitors, demonstrating empathy and respect in all interactions, Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations in a calm and professional manner, Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines, Ability to work independently and as a team member, Knowledge of all invasive and non-invasive ultrasound procedures, Knowledge of all ultrasound equipment and computer based systems, Knowledge of applicable sterile field procedures and proficient with portable exams, Proficient in applicable diagnostic ultrasound imaging; knowledge of patient age-specific needs to provide appropriate care Essential Responsibilities 1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. 2. Performs Sonographic images of the highest technical quality. 3. Uses Universal Precautions in all situations per policy and procedure. 4. Obtains appropriate medical history before patient examination and prepares patient for exam. 5. Follows department protocols for each exam. 6. Documents any changes in patient condition using appropriate forms and contacts Registered Nurse (RN) when necessary. 7. May be required to assist radiologist and RN in applicable ultrasound procedures as needed. 8. Keeps patient informed of exam procedures, delays, and allows patient to ask questions regarding the procedure; provides explanations of procedures and equipment. 9. Keeps open communication with physicians and staff on patient exam, delays, concerns and care. 10. Sets up sterile trays and assists the radiologist in invasive procedures with Ultrasound guidance. 11. Uses all applicable ultrasound equipment and reports all deficiencies to leadership. 12. Appropriately documents in PACS, EPIC, required forms and billing. 13. Prioritizes procedures and utilizes time wisely to complete daily workload within the scheduled shift. 14. May be required to work additional shifts, different shifts or at satellite locations as needed. 15. Maintains cleanliness of all ultrasound rooms, machines and control area. 16. Enters correct charges and supplies in the computer. 17. Gives accurate and detailed interpretations of exams. 18. Performs other duties as assigned. Welcome to Eisenhower Health Careers!
