SUMMARY

Performs phlebotomy with minimal supervision as well as a variety of clerical and computer related activities independently. This individual interacts with patients of all ages, works effectively with others to meet the needs of the patients and maintains the highest level of care possible.

Responsibilities

Performs Phlebotomy activities on patients of all ages with minimal supervision
Collects Stat, Timed and other samples by venipuncture or capillary puncture, being aware of the importance of timing in instances such as therapeutic drug levels, etc.; follow established guidelines for laboratory specimens.
Verify all patient information prior to specimen collection.
Label all samples collected.
Initial, Time and Date all blood specimen tubes
Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following departmental procedure and observing isolation procedures.
Performs other duties such as data collecting, filing, faxing, assisting technologist
Maintains copies of outpatient orders in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Maintains copies of manually requested patient tests in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Exhibits polite, considerate and caring attitude when interacting with patients, their families, physicians and hospital staff.
Reports system problems to the Lab Supervisor/Lead Phlebotomist and Health Quest IT Department.
