About the role

The RN assesses patients' physical and emotional needs, organizes and coordinates care, evaluates patient progress, and collaborates with the healthcare team. This role requires a caring approach to meet the needs of patients, including those with psychiatric complications.

Summary

This position performs a variety of integrated functions, intuitively, using the nursing process while applying a broad nursing knowledge in a caring, concerned manner.

Position requires travel among MyMichigan Health Subsidiaries.

The RN is responsible for meeting the needs of all types of patients, including those with psychiatric medical complications.

For casual positions: casual employees have no regularly scheduled work hours, but require an understanding of, and agreement to fulfill, the minimum time commitments of the position for as long as the position is held.

These are (if needed) at least 48 hours per month with 24 of those hours worked on weekends, and an annual requirement of 24 hours worked on holidays.

  • Organizes and coordinates all aspects of patient care according to the patient’s real and/or perceived needs. (25%)
  • Evaluates patient progress by correlating patient information with nursing knowledge to determine if goals are being met according to the patient’s plan of care or clinical path. (25%)
  • Consults and collaborates with members of the health care team in planning and implementing total patient care for individuals.

Communicates interactions, both verbal and written, that clearly and positively accomplish desired patient care as a collaborative effort. Educates patients and families. Provides teaching, support and coordination of health care plans for patient and family through the acute phase of illness, as needed. Promotes clinical knowledge development including critical thinking skills and improves strategies for comparing clinical judgment through research and continuing education.

  • CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
