The Patient Observation Assistant provides continuous observation of patients to ensure safety and intervene in risky behaviors. They communicate with patients to deescalate situations and document observations in the electronic medical record.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old and possess the ability to recognize and report patient status. Knowledge of growth and development principles and department policies is required, along with Basic Life Support certification.
Must be 18 years old or older Ability to recognize and report data reflective of the patients' status and identify each patient's specific needs. Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods. Knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span. Knowledge of department policies and procedures. Successful completion of Crisis Management Course. Physical Demands Lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
