About the role

The Intake Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the admissions process, including handling inquiry calls and processing referrals. Additional duties involve insurance verification, patient registration, and ensuring a safe environment for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Intake Coordinator - PRN Opportunity Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital provides inpatient treatment services to adolescents and adults at our 86-bed facility in Panama City, FL and outpatient services to adolescents and adults at our three outpatient centers located throughout the Florida Panhandle.
  • Additionally, we offer specialized treatment for active duty military members through our Military Resiliency Program, specialized chemical dependency treatment and TMS therapy for chronic depression.

  • This includes but is not limited to efficient and effective handling of inquiry calls, processing of referrals for possible admission, knowledge of and communication with referral sources and customers who present for assessment.
  • Additional responsibilities include insurance verification/precertification, patient registration process, vitals, wanding, patient observations, scheduling of evaluations, admissions processing, bed board monitoring, belongings searches/inventorying, and other non-clinical duties as assigned.
  • Job Duties/Responsibilities: Act as liaison between family, department, referral sources, agencies, schools and other interested parties.
  • Assure a safe, nurturing, clean, & supportive environment for patients, staff and guest.
  • Assist in the safe entrance into A&R by utilizing metal detector to scan all patients and accompanying friends/family.
  • Assist in securing all belongings.
  • Assist in managing incoming calls, faxes and referrals.
  • Assist with clerical duties such as faxing, copying, filing, and collating for department as needed.
  • Assist with basic housekeeping duties such as emptying trashcans, sanitizing furniture, or sweeping floors.
  • Conducts telephone triage activities.
  • Receives telephone inquiries and crisis calls and determines appropriate disposition for emergency services, clinical crisis assessment, referral to community resources and/or agencies.
  • During imminent risk crisis calls, maintains communication with caller while accessing emergency medical or police services.
  • Maintain and complete all required forms including telephone inquiry forms and logs; document all appropriate activities related to services.
  • Collect updated insurance and financial information.
  • Data enter into computer databases.
  • Conduct patient rounds and report deviations from the expectations and standard.
  • Recognize escalation and take preventive steps to reduce incidence of restraint and seclusion.
  • Document patient behaviors, condition, & progress in a manner prescribed by policy and clinical standards.
  • Ensure patient’s nutrition needs are meet.
  • Provide hands-on physical care, supervision, crisis intervention, behavior management, & behavior modification as directed by the individual treatment plan & unit program guidelines, employing appropriate verbal and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) as needed.
  • Take and record vital signs, both manually and with equipment and responsible for q 15 minute checks.
  • Checks patients for contraband and manages patient belongings.
  • Orient patients to the facility with emphasis on procedures & standard practices.
  • Maintain professional therapeutic boundaries with patients, families and guest.

Qualifications

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree or Vocational/Technical School graduate preferred. One year health care experience, preferably in a mental health setting required. Acute behavioral health experience preferred. Ability to work in a fast paced Admissions Department. Ability to work 12 hour shifts on an as needed basis. Employment with Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital requires successful completion of a Level II background Screening.
