Requirements summary

Opportunity Overview
We have an immediate opening for a Per Diem Certified Surgical Technician to join our team at Ovation Fertility in Nashville, Tennessee.
Schedule: On call/as needed weekdays, with 1 weekend per month and 1 holiday per year

In this role, the Per Diem Certified Surgical Technician will
Ensure patient comfort and safety measures are maintained
Anticipate special needs and instrumentation for the patient relative to an accurate assessment of the patient and chart information
Prepare the operative suite for surgery by checking and gathering supplies, equipment, and instrumentation
Set up sterile OR field with necessary equipment to perform the surgery
Perform appropriate cleaning of the operating room between cases

Ensure availability of adequate supplies, equipment, and instruments for scheduled cases
Communicate with the surgical team prior to the case to ascertain specific needs
Assist in draping to provide a sterile field
Assist the surgeon during the surgical procedure anticipating his/her needs and the patient's needs during the case
Conscientiously observe and report any breaks in sterile technique to the surgeon and RN circulator
Ensure that surgical asepsis is maintained in the handling of instruments, sponges, sutures, drains, needles, and dressings
Assure that counts (sponge, needle or instruments) are correct before patient leaves the OR; utilize supplies in a cost-effective manner
Assist in moving the patient to stretcher after case
Maintain a clean and orderly environment within the operative suite
Integrate concepts of good body mechanics and "universal" precautions in daily work, wearing personal protective equipment as dictated by task at hand
Complete all appropriate logs and checks prior to start of case and records indicator strip in log
Assist in the daily maintenance of the department
Restock the OR daily
Help to restock sterile supply room and storage shelving as needed
Pull for the next day cases; set up for the next day as needed by gathering equipment and supplies
Make a list of supplies that needs to be ordered
Complete sterilization of all instruments used that day
Maintain autoclaves and complete logs for cleaning and testing
Maintain clean and dirty utility rooms by stocking and cleaning daily
Seek out work to be completed, verify with nurse manager, and be available to perform daily tasks
Terminally clean the OR at end of the day; restock blanket and fluid warmer for next day
Utilize interpersonal skills in an effective manner
Assist in orienting new staff members to the OR
Maintain good relationships and communicate well with patients, families, staff, and physicians
Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications
and Skills Include:
Bachelors degree in Medical Technology, Reproductive Biology, or Cell Biology preferred
Graduate of an accredited OR Technician program with appropriate certification required
1 year minimum of experience in surgical technology, including instrument sterilization and OR cleaning processes
Experience in specialty surgical fields such as orthopedics, gynecology, or fertility procedures preferred
Active BLS certification
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good research skills
Tech savvy
Flexibility and willingness to learn at all times
