Who you are
• Degree or completed coursework in Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology or other type of human development and one year in activities programs or previous work experience with older adults or people with disabilities required. Must possess and maintain a Washington State Food Worker Card, CPR/First Aid certifications. Dementia and Mental Health training certification from Washington Department of Health required. Must have the ability to communicate in conversational English.
General Summary
The Activities Coordinator is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of a varied activity program designed to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of Briarwood Health Center residents living in memory care and assisted living.
Essential Job Duties
Coordinates and leads activities such as reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, religious services, special entertainment, outside trips, special events and one-to-one visits as indicated.
Prepares and distributes the monthly calendar and newsletter.
Purchases supplies for activities as needed.
Distributes mail daily to residents.
Performs and directs the movement of residents to and from recreation areas as needed.
Directs volunteer activities, enlists their support and coordinates their efforts; provides training and supervision of volunteers.
Other duties
Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Requirements/working conditions
Position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting for approximately 60% of workday. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. Must be able to push residents weighing up to 250 lbs. in geri-chairs and/or wheelchairs. Must be able to read and speak English, hear, and be able to sit and walk intermittently throughout the day. May be exposed to communicable diseases, HIV and Hepatitis B viruses, industrial and household chemicals, offensive odors and combative behaviors.
