The role supports the health system by processing protected health information timely and with quality, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and system standards for confidential and accurate patient records. Key duties include document scanning, indexing, quality assurance, and monitoring various workqueues like EPIC, Right Fax, and Onbase.
Candidates need one to two years of experience in health information or medical records systems, along with required medical terminology knowledge. Essential soft skills include excellent customer service, composure, tact, maturity, strong phone etiquette, clerical aptitude, accuracy in detail-oriented tasks, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to prioritize workload.
The HIMS Operations team position posting is for an on-site (remote work not supported) Medical Records Tech position at our Kettering Health Dayton campus location in Dayton, Ohio; however, because Medical Records Tech positions are considered a part of Kettering Health System Services division, member may be required to transfer, at any time, to perform duties and responsibilities at other campuses within the entire Kettering Health system. Transfers to other campuses are rare but may be necessary with limited prior notice, mileage is reimbursable. While not a direct patient care position, this position will require physically being present on units and passing through areas with on-going active patient care. The HIMS Operations Medical Record Tech must be able to balance work that allows for independent workflow while simultaneously fostering an environment of support and teamwork for assuring a balanced workload and optimal productivity. Medical Record Techs must possess adaptability and flexibility to organize and prioritize workload to meet quality and productivity standards, learn new concepts/skills, and participate in continuous process improvement activities requiring articulation of problems and potential solutions in a professional and confidential manner. HIMS Operations Medical Record Techs can expect to perform the following duties and responsibilities: Document scanning, indexing and quality assurance. Monitoring and working EPIC workqueues. Monitoring and working Right Fax/ Onbase workqueues Monitoring and working Advanced Care Document workqueues. Monitoring and working Patient Amendment Requests Use of Microsoft (MS) Office products such as Excel, Teams, and Word for collaboration and communication purposes, this includes the use of landline telecommunication equipment. Additionally, users must of able to use Multi-Functional Devices for printing, scanning, and faxing (digital faxing options are also used).
