Responsibilities
- Takes steps and follows procedures to secure and safeguard patient and confidential information.
- Assesses patient's condition, age, size and other medical conditions to best determine if treatment can be performed within the prescribed plan.
- Review radiation oncologist's prescribed dose prior to the administration of radiation; checks to ensure that prescribed doses are mathematically correct and when needed, consults with the radiation physicist and/or treatment plan to determine factors for treatment.
- Assists and monitors patient during treatment; recognizes significant complications, notes, problems, complaints or occurrences; notifies physician as needed.
- Able to answer patient questions and provide emotional support as needed.
- Operates specialized radiation therapy equipment; recognizes malfunctions and refers service as needed; selects technical factors per treatment plan.
- May arrange patient transportation to and from the department to provide patient care.
- Provides patient / significant other education and explanation of procedures being performed.
- Explains waiting times in excess of established protocol.
- Assists radiation oncologist / physicist with brachytherapy procedures.
- Maintains records of treatments and doses administered according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs chart checks as required; assists physicist with record keeping.
- Will perform all other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of an accredited course study in Radiation Oncology Technology.
- Preferred ARRT(T) registered or meets eligibility requirements for examination.
- Examination must be completed within six months of eligibility Licensure by State of Illinois - IEMA Division of Nuclear Safety Obtains continuing education credits as required Maintains CPR certification Prefer a minimum of one year of professional radiation therapist experience in a clinical or hospital setting The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $40.00-60.00, with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
- Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives.
