The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care, including obtaining vital signs and performing foot x-rays under physician supervision. They also manage front-end clerical tasks such as reception, scheduling, and maintaining electronic medical records.
The Medical Assistant in Podiatry provides care under the supervision of the Physician. Obtains vital signs and performs x-rays of the foot. Obtains relevant medical information and records it in EMR. The medical assistant also performs front-end clerical operations of the practice including but not limited to reception, scheduling, check-out, and answering phones. na
BLS required through RQI.
Must successfully completed NYS approved course for podiatry x-ray within 6 months of hire.(NYS Podiatry Radiology Course for Unlicensed Persons (nysed.gov) or Radiology Course For Podiatric (unlicensed) Assistants (nyspma.org))
Preferred:
Certification obtained from a Medical Assistant School licensed by New York State preferred.
Prior experience in a physician office or other medical setting, or completion of accredited school for Medical Assistants.
Must demonstrate assessment skills for both adults and children.
Working knowledge of emergency intervention and available resources.
• Prior experience as a Medical Assistant in a Podiatry practice.
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
Computer literacy.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products and electronic medical record
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a BLS certification through RQI. Completion of a NYS-approved podiatry x-ray course is required within six months of hire.
