The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner performs initial psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and ongoing treatment for individuals with mental illnesses. They also develop treatment plans, manage medications, and provide psychiatric support to the clinical team.
Candidates must hold a Master's degree in nursing and be a licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Michigan. A minimum of three years of clinical experience in mental health or developmental disabilities is required.
Under the direction of the Medical Director and day-to-day supervision of the Behavioral Health Director within established policies and procedures, performs initial psychiatric evaluation, diagnoses, ongoing assessment, and treatment of individuals with mild to moderate and severe and persistent mental illness. Identifies client needs, develops treatment plans and referrals, and provides medication management. Collaborates with Family Nurse Practitioners and provides psychiatric support/recommendations for patient care; performs related work as required.
License Requirements: Year(s) of Experience
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing
Licensure in the State of Michigan and board certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner; Certified as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) by the ANCC or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), Michigan Controlled Substance License, and current DEA license.
Three (3) years of clinical experience working with individuals with mild to moderate and severe and persistent mental illness and/or developmental disabilities, including assessment, medication management, and crisis intervention. Preference of experience working with children in an outpatient setting.
Additional Requirements: Must be willing to work occasional weekends, holidays or irregular hours;
Proficiency with Electronic Health Records;
Valid Michigan Driver’s license and use of a vehicle during working hours;
Must be able to meet the physical and sensory demands of the position;
BLS certification.
Position must be able to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, including the use of hands and fingers for handling, grasping, typing, writing, or operating equipment with or without reasonable accommodation
