The Medical Assistant will perform clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, conducting EKG and Holter monitor hook-ups, and assisting physicians with patient exams. They are also responsible for managing EMR records, handling pharmacy calls, and coordinating insurance authorizations and surgery scheduling.
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and a current Medical Assistant certification. At least one year of clinical experience, specifically in cardiology and EKG administration, is required along with current BCLS certification.
Takes vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, weight, etc.) Verifies and inputs patient medications into EMR. Making changes and additions as needed to the medication list. Responsible for EKG, rhythm strip, and signal average EKG hook-ups and printouts. (Proficiency Required) Assist physicians with patient exams as needed. Responsible for Holter monitor hook-ups and removals, event recorders and Loop recorders. (Proficiency Required) Ability to perform stress tests as needed and to assist in test interpretation. Takes pharmacy phone calls, reviews charts, and calls in prescription refills. Monitors pharmacy samples, removing from stock as expired. Receives and returns phone calls from patients and other external sources. Receives and returns portal messages in the EMR. Maintains current CPR and Medical Assistant certification. May also be responsible for insurance precertification, prior authorization, procedure/surgery scheduling and coordinating transfers and admissions. Performs other duties as required. May be required to move between locations as needed.
High school diploma or Texas accredited GED is required. Current Medical Assistant certification is required. 1 year of Medical Assistant experience is required. Current BCLS certification. Current experience in administration of EKGs is required. Prior recent cardiology experience in a clinical capacity is required.
