About the role

The Ophthalmic Technician will gather patient medical history and perform various eye function tests such as retinal photography and optical coherence tomography. They will also assist optometrists with basic procedures and maintain ophthalmic instruments.

Health Center Inc. (also known as The New York Hotel Trades Council and Hotel Association of NYC, Inc Employee Benefit Funds) is a NYC based healthcare organization with ambulatory care facilities staffed with a wide range of health professionals to provide extensive medical and diagnostic services. We offer Primary Care, Dental, Radiological, Vision, Mental Health, and other Specialist services at our facilities at no charge to our Union members, removing the financial roadblock that many people face when trying to obtain quality medical care. We are looking for an Ophthalmic Technician who is willing to travel to our Harlem and Queens locations and help in our mission of providing top notch medical services to our Union members. It's an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to make an impact for under-represented communities and have a stable work schedule (No weekends and no overnights!)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gather medical records and patient information; document patient medical history.
  • Perform eye function tests and exams such as, Non-Contact Tonometry, Retinal Photography, Visual Fields Testing, and Optical Coherence Tomography.
  • Analyze test results.
  • Administer and/or prepare medication.
  • Provide eye care information to patient.
  • Maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments.
  • Assist Optometrists in basic procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • 2-3 years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Technician performing autorefractor, Non-Contact Tonometry, Visual Fields Testing and Optical Coherence Tomography exams.
  • Professional proficiency in the Spanish language preferred.
  • Knowledge of the following
  • Zeiss instruments is preferred:
  • Humphrey Field Analyzer 3
  • CIRRUS Photo 600

Requirements

Candidates must have 2-3 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician performing specific diagnostic exams. Proficiency in Spanish and knowledge of Zeiss instruments are preferred qualifications.
