About the role

Performs diagnostic MRI exams under the direction of a Radiologist to ensure high-quality patient care. Monitors patients and equipment during procedures while accurately documenting all clinical information and patient reactions.

Per Diem must work a minimum of six (6) shifts within six (6) weeks and up to a maximum of 19 hours per week.

Per Diem Rate is $49.25 per hour

Position Purpose

Under the direction of the Radiologist, performs appropriate diagnostic exams and studies to ensure safe, high quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluation and Implementation of Appropriate Care
  • Under the direction of the Radiologist, anatomically positions the patient and performs imaging procedures utilizing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
  • Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging procedures to ensure quality diagnostic outcomes.
  • After reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient’s abilities and condition, selects the most appropriate patient care plan.
  • Selects appropriate shielding devices and appropriate immobilization devices.
  • Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast media.
  • Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.
  • Reconfirms patient identification using two unique identifiers (Name and DOB) and verifies procedure requested. Verifies female patient pregnancy status when appropriate.

    Qualifications

    Education: Graduate of Radiologic Technology Program or MRI Program Accredited through ARRT or ARMRIT

    Experience

    On the job training with outside didactic education i.e., Galveston College or previous MRI experience

    Certification: BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

    Licensure

    • Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) MRI Certification (MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) OR
    • Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and MRI certification through ARRT required within 9 months of hire

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Demonstrates ability to effectively perform advanced MRI angiography to include bilateral run-off’s and the required reformatting with additions and subtraction of raw data.
    • Demonstrates understanding of and responsibility for magnetic resonance safety compliance requirements.

    Education

    Education preferred from an educational institution approved by ARRT or ARMRIT.

    Experience: Preferred minimum of one-year experience as an MRI technologist

    Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.

    exposure to chemical, biological, and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals.

    Work Requirements

    Able to manage technical business equipment i.e. phone, fax, computer etc.

    Able to assist with the movement/manipulation of a patient and equipment weighing up to and over 300 lbs.

    Able to care for patients with infectious diseases.

    Able to sit, stand, walk, and bend for the duration of the scheduled shift.

    Able to demonstrate concentration and visual and auditory acuity to watch monitors and follow instructions during exams.
