The extern assists with surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile field, preparing equipment, and supporting the surgical team. They also handle patient transport, equipment disinfection, and ensure the operating room is prepared for each case.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and be currently enrolled in the MVCC Surgical Technologist program. A BLS certification is required, along with basic computer proficiency and strong interpersonal skills.
The Extern - Surgical Technician performs a variety of preparatory, scrubbing and related services necessary to provide patient care in the operating room. Assists with surgical cases in all specialty areas. The intent of the externship is to prepare the student to transition into a Surgical Tech role upon completion of the Surgical Tech Program at MVCC.
• BLS certification.
