The Surgical Assistant collaborates with the Primary Attending Surgeon to provide safe, high-quality perioperative care during surgical procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with surgical exposure, tissue handling, wound closure, and the operation of surgical devices in a robotic operating room environment.
Candidates must hold an Illinois Surgical Assistant License and possess certification such as CSFA or CSA. A minimum of 2-5 years of clinical experience in a surgical specialty area is preferred, along with the ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary team.

Here, you will play a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care while supporting surgeons throughout the operative process. This is in the CCD OR – Robotics department. This position is 100% onsite and requires candidates to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
The Surgical Assistant supports the surgical and perioperative team by collaborating with the Primary Attending Surgeon to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care during surgical procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with surgical exposure, tissue handling, wound closure, device placement, and other intraoperative tasks delegated by the attending surgeon and appropriate to the assistant’s training and certification.

UChicago Medicine Center for Care and Discovery - Hyde Park, also known as the CCD, is our flagship hospital in Hyde Park.
The 10-story facility is home to world-class medical and surgical care. The CCD includes 436 beds (all private rooms, which are spacious enough to accommodate family for overnight stays), 52 intensive care beds, 9 suites for advanced imaging and interventional procedures and 23 operating rooms designed to accommodate hybrid and robotic procedures.
Other amenities include wireless internet, room service, a variety of on-site restaurant options and a gift shop.

Our main lobby, also known as the Sky Lobby, is located on building’s seventh floor. It features floor-to-ceiling glass walls, which fill the space with natural light and provide panoramic views of Hyde Park and downtown Chicago. Other Sky Lobby features include:

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
