The EEG technician is responsible for conducting electroencephalography tests and ensuring the timely completion of daily patient testing. They must also maintain clinical equipment and ensure patient safety, comfort, and privacy throughout the testing process.
The role requires the ability to execute multi-step diagnostic procedures and maintain accurate documentation. While EEG experience is preferred, it is not strictly required for this position.
This position is a combination of an EEG tech and EKG tech position. An EEG technician is a skilled professional trained in the use of a medical diagnostic machine, the electroencephalograph. This facilitates healthcare professionals to note down and study the electrical activity of the brain and nervous system. This non-invasive procedure monitors the nervous system and also gauges the patient’s brain-wave activity. The EEG tracings are used by physicians to diagnose several nerve and brain related conditions, such as, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, seizures, brain tumors, sleep disorders, and head injuries. Performs clerical work related to Diagnostic Imaging Services. Demonstrates principles associated with patient and physician satisfaction. Performs cardiology studies as required. Evaluates patient orders/information to assure the appropriate procedure and order the procedure correctly. Retrieves and relays patient information from computer system for daily operation duties: patient census, daily activity log, historical file, messages, report interpretations, double medical record consolidations, etc. Routinely checks to see that all necessary preparations for the day's schedule are complete. . Performs, processes, and files EKGs in accordance with established protocol and physician request. Demonstrates knowledge of diagnostic imaging clerical procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of operation of all equipment used in the clerical area of the Cardiology department, i.e., computers, printers, MUSE, EPIC, PACS, fax, etc. Understands and demonstrates knowledge of scheduling procedures. Answers the telephone promptly, professionally identifying his/her name. Taking accurate messages and referring calls to appropriate person or department and follows through on requests. Relays information and follows through on requests. Demonstrates general knowledge of basic patient care and responds to immediate needs of patients. Explains procedures to outpatients and ensures all questions are answered by the most appropriate person. Gives knowledgeable direction to patients to other locations within the hospital. Promptly and accurately responds to physicians' needs and other customer needs, i.e., visitors, other departments, patients, administration. Demonstrates knowledge of performance improvement goals and monitors. Participates in performance improvement projects. Assists in acquisition of performance improvement data.
