The Physical Therapist evaluates and treats patients as part of a rehabilitation team while maintaining accurate documentation and billing. They also collaborate with physicians and families to develop and implement effective treatment plans.
Candidates must hold a Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program and possess a current Iowa state license. Additionally, they are required to maintain BLS certification and complete specific stroke education.
Clinical Excellence/Patient Care Performs examination and evaluation to determine diagnosis and prognosis of patient/client and determine appropriate intervention to gain expected outcomes based on patient/client goals including a collaborative approach with patient/family and health care team. Utilizes of appropriate Physical Therapy interventions to produce desired outcomes. Utilizes of appropriate documentation and billing to communicate progress and status to physicians, other healthcare professionals and third party reimbursement. Supervision of Physical Therapist Assistant in accordance to state licensure laws. Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgements and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients. Able to demonstrate the necessary skills and competencies of a physical therapist. Keeps work area and equipment clean and orderly by maintaining and practicing hospital and departmental policies and procedures regarding safety and infection control. Development & Patient Education Performs as a member of the Rehabilitation Department through joint interventions, communication and quality assurance programs and meetings. Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance therapy practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research. Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient/family needs including age, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension. Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential and actual concerns immediately.
Education: Graduate of an Accredited Physical Therapy Program (Masters or Doctorate level) License/Certifications: Completion of four hours of stroke education prior to the end of orientation and annually. Current licensure in good standing to practice as a PT in Iowa. Must possess and maintain current BLS certification or obtain certification within three months from date of hire. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English. Multicultural sensitivity. Basic Computer skills. Customer/patient focused.
