The Medical Interpreter assists Limited English Proficiency (LEP) clients during medical visits, appointments, and administrative tasks by providing accurate and impartial interpretation. They also coordinate referrals, document patient encounters, and participate in group health education and counseling sessions.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Social Work, or Languages with a Medical Interpreting certification, or a Bachelor’s degree in another field with at least 2 years of relevant experience. A valid CPR certification is also required for the role.
The Medical Interpreter is responsible for assisting Limited English Proficiency (LEP) clients during medical visits, appointments, and administrative tasks. This involves interpreting accurately and impartially without adding, omitting, or altering any information exchanged between healthcare professionals and the patient. The Medical Interpreter is also responsible assisting LEP clients with communication regarding lab results and appointments, coordinating referrals, performing psychological evaluations, documenting patient encounters, and participating in group health education activities and counseling sessions as needed. It is important for the Medical Interpreter to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards while interpreting.
