The technologist prepares microscopic tissue slides from surgical specimens for diagnostic purposes, including grossing, embedding, and microtomy. They are also responsible for performing specialized staining techniques and maintaining departmental competencies.
Under supervision of the Anatomic Pathology Manager, prepares microscopic tissue slides from surgical specimens for diagnostic purposes, ensuring that all specimens are properly and appropriately collected and labeled.
Duties include Grossing of surgical specimens, embedding tissue samples, microtomy and slide preparation for routine Histology and Frozen Sectioning.
Knowledge of automated Imaging System, automated special staining, Immunohistochemical and In Situ hybridization staining using different staining platforms is required.
Other required skills include computer knowledge; the ability to communicate with members of the healthcare team, including excellent written and verbal communication skills; and the ability to maintain established departmental competencies.
Actively participates in staff education, training, and competency.
Knowledgeable in all CAP/CLIA regulatory requirements.
