The Residential Support Associate provides observation and general care to adults with substance use and co-occurring disorders. Responsibilities include monitoring unit safety, documenting patient status in electronic records, and assisting with daily operational tasks like meal preparation and facility maintenance.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED, with a Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience with substance use or mental health disorders and completion of CASAC training are highly desirable qualifications.
The Residential Support Associate functions as a member of the residential team working collaboratively to provide observation and general care to the adult population diagnosed with substance use disorders as well as co-occurring disorders. Includes support functions related to daily operations of the stabilization program. Answers incoming telephone calls and takes action as needed: completes telephone screenings for potential admissions and enters into electronic medical record, routes calls and/or screenings to other staff as needed. Responds appropriately to other general inquiries. Responsible to complete unit rounds on assigned shift and report inconsistencies or variances of individuals or rooms to supervisor or licensed staff. Responsible for ongoing monitoring of population and documenting observations in electronic medical record. Greets new admissions in front lobby. Ensures identification and insurance cards are copied and scanned to chart. Performs vital signs based on adequate training and knowledge. Completes thorough, dignified contraband screening of new admissions and individuals re-entering the unit. Performs supervised drug screening tests on same-gender individuals. Inspects all empty rooms for admission-ready status. Ensures soiled linen is removed to hampers and that beds and other furniture are sanitized. Communicates with contracted cleaning service to complete heavy-duty cleaning of empty rooms as needed. Following discharges on assigned shift, ensures that rooms are sanitized and prepared for the next admission. Ensures soiled linen is gathered and ready to be picked up by laundry service twice weekly. Maintains supply of clean linen and towels, laundered according to infection control guidelines, in the event of linen shortage. Responsible for meal preparation and serving food as regularly scheduled or assigned. Follows planned menus and other kitchen protocols and maintains cleanliness of kitchen. Shops for supplies from local grocery stores or other retail stores as needed. Provides safe transportation of individuals to other agencies/facilities as needed. Ensures facility vehicles are ready for daily use, including adequate supply of gas and cleanliness of vehicle. Records mileage on vehicle log and reports vehicle problems timely. Follows infection control and proper hygiene guidelines for new admissions with respect to washing and drying first load of personal belongings and ensuring admission shower is completed. Distributes linen, towels, and toiletry supplies to individuals as needed. Provides limited orientation of the unit to new admissions and explains quarantine protocol. Provides supervision to individuals during outside fresh-air breaks when requested. Itemizes individuals’ valuables on the Valuables form, and stores valuables according to protocol. Provides assistance with receiving and stocking food deliveries and unit supplies. Ensures unit safety – check for locked doors and set alarms as scheduled. Attends and participates in staff meetings. With training, accepts additional related duties as needed. Responsible for ensuring timely reporting of work-related injuries to supervisor or lead person immediately.
High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Enrollment or completion of 350-hour CASAC training and/or experience with adults diagnosed with substance use disorders, mental health disorders, or other practical medical experience preferred. Ability to write legibly required. Ability to navigate electronic medical record, Microsoft Outlook, and other Windows applications. Maintain valid NYS driver’s license within agency criteria.
