The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary punctures to collect specimens while ensuring patient comfort and safety. They must also manage specimen labeling, transport, and documentation in compliance with clinical and safety protocols.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical or laboratory setting. Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician is preferred but not required.
Reports to Site Manager Works collaboratively with all clinical staff and front office staff to ensure accurate specimen collection, patient comfort, and timely lab processing
High school diploma or equivalent required Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (preferred but not required) Minimum of one year phlebotomy experience in a hospital, clinic, or laboratory setting required Strong knowledge of venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques Excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care Responsibilities and Duties: Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to obtain blood specimens for diagnostic testing Verify patient identity and confirm test requisitions before collection Prepare specimens for transport, labeling, and processing in compliance with lab standards Maintain accurate documentation of collections and specimen logs Follow OSHA, CLIA, and universal precautions for infection control and safety Monitor and restock phlebotomy supplies; maintain cleanliness of work area Provide clear instructions and reassurance to patients during specimen collection Assist with proper handling, storage, and chain-of-custody requirements for specimens Support physicians and nurses by ensuring timely specimen availability for diagnostics Participate in continuing education and training as required All other duties related to specimen collection as assigned Urology Austin offers a competitive benefits package to eligible employees.
