About the role

The Vitals Technician is responsible for obtaining and recording patient vital signs, height, and weight during clinic visits. They also ensure patient rooms are sanitized and prepared while verifying medication lists for Advanced Practice Providers.

Job Description

Job Purpose

The purpose of the Vitals Technician is to help patients and physicians by obtaining information, providing services, and assistance.

Essential Job Functions

Obtain and record patient’s accurate height and weight on each visit.

Obtain patient vital signs such as pulse, temperature, respiration, and blood pressure.

Escort Patient to room.

Verify medication list with each Advanced Practice Providers visit.

Adhere to annual CCI standards based on current criteria.

Ensure all patient rooms are clean, sanitized, and prepared for next patient appointment.

Ensure compliance with all company, state, and federal confidentiality and healthcare regulations.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must have excellent listening skills.
  • Strong computer skills needed and must be detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to work as a team member, follow instructions, and communicate well with coworkers.
  • Must be able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have ability to learn new tasks and make judgments.
  • Education/Experience
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Medical experience preferred.

Working conditions

This position works in a busy oncology/hematology clinic. This person will have direct patient contact, including some patients who are very ill.

Physical requirements

This position requires that the employee be able to stand for long periods of time, up to eight hours a day. This position also requires that the employee be able to lift and assist patients as needed.

Direct reports

This is not a supervisory position.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with Medical Assistant certification and medical experience preferred. Strong communication, computer, and multitasking skills are required to function effectively in a fast-paced oncology environment.
