The psychiatrist provides diagnostic assessments, crisis intervention, and determines the appropriate level of care for patients in the Psychiatric Emergency Room. They also collaborate with medical staff to manage psychiatric, substance abuse, and medical issues while documenting findings in the medical record.
Candidates must hold an M.D. degree and possess a current, valid license to practice in New York State. A minimum of one year of experience as a practicing psychiatrist is required, along with board certification or eligibility in psychiatry.
The Psychiatrist, in the Psychiatric Emergency Room (CPEP), is responsible for providing diagnostic assessment and crisis intervention for patients brought from the community by Emergency Medical Service and referred from various community mental health services. The Psychiatrist must assess the issue of danger to self or others and the need for inpatient hospitalization for psychiatrically ill and substance abusing patients. The Psychiatrist will also provide part time clinic assessments and evaluations to clinic patients.
M.D., Residency in Psychiatry, desirable but not necessary.
