The psychiatrist provides diagnostic assessments and crisis interventions for patients in the Psychiatric Emergency Room, including evaluating risks of harm to self or others. They collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to determine appropriate levels of care and provide administrative oversight for the Department of Psychiatry during off-hours.
Candidates must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree and be Board Eligible or Board Certified in Psychiatry. A valid New York State medical license and registration are required for this position.
The Psychiatrist, in the Psychiatric Emergency Room, is responsible to provide diagnostic assessment and crisis intervention for patients brought from the community by Emergency Medical Service and referred from various community mental health services. The Psychiatrist must assess the issue of danger to self or others and the need for inpatient hospitalization for psychiatrically ill and substance abusing patients.
