The Nursing Assistant supports professional nursing staff by assisting patients with activities of daily living and monitoring vital signs. They also perform clerical duties, maintain unit organization, and ensure patient safety within the clinical environment.
Requirements summary
Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and be a graduate of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant program. Current certification on the Minnesota State Registry and BLS certification are required.

Position Overview
The Nursing Assistant is an integral part of the health care team who assists professional nursing personnel in the delivery of patient care in the Medical/Surgical/Pediatrics, Family Birth Center, and Intensive Care Departments. The Nursing Assistant primarily supports nursing functions as planned and delegated by the professional nurse. In addition to direct patient contact, the Nursing Assistant is responsible for some clerical duties, assisting with maintenance of unit organization, and assisting with codes as directed.

Duties & Responsibilities
Assists patients with activities of daily living to include toileting, feeding, and ambulating.
The Nursing Assistant role also takes patient weights, repositions patients, records Inputs and Outputs, and completes vital signs as directed by the professional nurse, and follows recommended infection control procedures during contact with patients.
Is constantly vigilant to the safety needs of patients, taking necessary precautions as warranted and communicates concerns to the professional nurse in a timely manner.
Assists in maintaining supplies and equipment to enable staff to provide quality and timely care.
Reports malfunctioning equipment promptly and removes from patient care area to maintain a safe environment.
Participates in and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience
Required
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must be a graduate of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant program and must remain current on the Minnesota State Registry as a Certified Nursing Assistant
BLS Certification
Demonstrates proper use of all transfer devices and various equipment in the MSP/FBC/ICU departments. Successful completion of all training related to using these devices
Demonstrates proper room order
Demonstrates an understanding of the operation and transportation of hospital equipment including portable oxygen
