The Radiation Therapy Tech delivers ionizing radiation to patients according to oncologist prescriptions and assists with treatment simulations and tumor localization. They are also responsible for maintaining treatment schedules, performing chart reviews, and ensuring adherence to safety guidelines.
Candidates must be certified as a Radiation Therapist by the ARRT or be board eligible and hold valid Iowa Department of Public Health licensure. A minimum of one year of experience in radiation oncology is preferred, along with mandatory reporter training.

Work Shift Day Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Summary This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by delivering ionizing radiation to patients following the prescription of the Radiation Oncologist. Assists with treatment simulations and tumor localization with the guidance of the Radiation Oncologist and Dosimetrist.
Job Duties Delivers Radiation therapy treatment Assist with CT simulations Constructs cerrobend electron blocks Performs verification simulation on treatment machine Completes and maintains treatment schedule Performs weekly chart reviews Assist with HDR procedures if needed Performs initial chart review Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Must have a solid understanding of the technical aspects of radiation therapy treatment administration. Must be able to communicate well with patients and their families and other members of the health care team. Must have a good working knowledge of radiation safety issues. Must be proficient on the treatment machines within 6 months of hire. Professional Experience Minimum of 1 year experience in radiation oncology preferred. Education Certified as a Radiation Therapist by ARRT or board eligible for certification Licensure, Certification, Registration Iowa Department of Public Health licensure required Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
