The Patient Care Technician provides direct patient care, including activities of daily living and clinical support such as vital signs and phlebotomy. They also document patient status and report changes to the Registered Nurse to ensure positive patient outcomes.
Candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED and a valid Patient Care Technician certification (CPCT/A, PCTC, or NCPCT). A BLS certification from the AHA is also required prior to the start date.
As directed by the team leader and the Registered Nurse and in partnership with the health care team and patient/ family, performs work processes to accomplish positive patient outcomes, and organizational goals. Provision of care focuses on psychosocial support and activities of daily living. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Cares for patients demonstrating clinical competence in implementing a plan of care. Maintains basic technician skills, such as obtaining vital signs, performing dressing changes, wound care, catheterizations, EKGs as required in specific work area. Reports observations, including any change in patient status to Registered Nurse in a timely and accurate manner. Perform phlebotomy as directed by the Nurse using proper patient identification, draw technique, labeling process and submission to the lab, follow infection control and safety procedures, monitor patients for adverse reactions. Performs interventions to enhance psychosocial support. Provides care supporting physical function for activities of daily living, such as toileting, bathing, feeding, and ambulation. Documents according to hospital and unit specific guidelines to accurately reflect care provided immediately after performing procedure or task.
