The Hospice Aide provides compassionate end-of-life care by assisting patients with daily needs, monitoring well-being, and performing clinical procedures under the supervision of a nurse. They are responsible for maintaining patient safety, documenting care, and supporting families within the inpatient unit.
Candidates must hold a valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the State of Florida and current CPR certification. A high school diploma is required, along with the ability to handle long shifts and professional conduct in a clinical environment.
The IPU Hospice Aide (CNA) responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: Follows rounding protocol to check on patient needs and well-being. Knocks to gain permission to enter if the patient is alert and/or has visitors. Greets the patient and any visitors and explains what you are doing. Utilizes the dry-erase board and writes the names of the team, goals for the day, and patient’s position on the bed. Addresses the 3 P’s during patient assessments: positioning, potty (personal needs), and pain. Consistently asks the patient if there is “anything else I can do for you before I leave.” Identifies problems with the quality of patient care and initiates actions for resolution and service recovery. Maintains management informed. Ensures that supplies and durable medical equipment are available to meet the needs of the patients. Prepares patients for meals and serves trays as necessary. Maintains safety precautions during 1:1s. Strips all linen from beds after body removal. Provides active listening and interacts frequently with patients and visitors. Provides teaching to patients and caregivers regarding hygiene, repositioning, urine, and bowel interventions prior to IPU discharge. Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: (3) 12-hour Shifts a week 6:45 am- 7:15pm Skills and QualificationsEducation & Experience: Successful Completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant Program. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and medical software systems. Ability to handle stress and long shifts. One year of recent clinical experience preferred. Hospice and/or home health experience preferred. Skills & Abilities: Must have proven ability to maintain professional conduct and confidentiality in the care of patients. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Compassionate with sound judgment. Excellent critical thinking and quick problem-solving skills Ability to handle stress and long shifts. Possesses critical thinking skills to clarify goals, examine assumptions, discern hidden values, evaluate evidence, accomplish action, and assess conclusions. Must be able to concentrate on work tasks amidst distractions such as noise, conversations, and foot traffic. Must exert self-control in volatile or hostile situations, such as when verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner. Must be able to withstand contact with animals and exposure to hoarding situations. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and medical software programs.
Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation. Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Florida.
