About the role

The Direct Support Professional implements individual treatment plans and ensures the health and safety of residents in a group home setting. Responsibilities also include providing transportation, performing housekeeping tasks, and maintaining accurate records for compliance.

This position is responsible for the implementation of quality treatment to residents of a residential group home, providing transportation, assisting with housekeeping and maintenance, developing relationships and performing related duties as assigned.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Implements quality individual treatment plans for consumers as requested or assigned.
  • Provides for the health and safety needs of consumers through preventive techniques and appropriate health services.
  • Drives agency van to transport consumers for services and activities.
  • Performs housekeeping and meal preparation tasks as assigned.
  • Completes house maintenance reviews and informs House Manager of needed repairs.
  • Assists in preparing and maintaining records and reports including compliance with VOASELA, Inc. policies and licensing/funding agencies.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with consumers and individuals in the community who may affect the well-being of the consumer or the residential group home.
  • Informs House Manager of all needed safety and emergency/disaster supplies required by governmental agencies, funding sources, and program.
  • Evacuate with Community Living Services consumers during hurricane season.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

This position requires knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to

  • Able to read, write, and understand English and verbal and written instructions.
  • Must have experience or desire in working with individuals who have mental illness or developmental disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability in record keeping, must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical requirements

Physical requirements include sitting, standing, climbing, pushing, bending, squatting, lifting, and pulling. Required to assist in moving consumers weighing up to 200 lb. Uses a mop and household cleaners when cleaning residential homes.
