The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of endoscopy equipment while assisting physicians and nurses during GI procedures. They ensure procedure rooms are properly stocked and that patient care is delivered safely and effectively.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. At least one year of endoscopy experience and SGNA certification are preferred.
Essential Functions: Responsible and accountable for the cleaning, disinfection and maintenance of all equipment with safety of the patient being the number one priority according to the SGNA Standards of Practice. Equipment and supplies are always available as needed to provide safe, cost-effective care for patients. Performs the technical procedures necessary for job responsibilities in a safe, effective and professional manner. Takes timely action and appropriately anticipates Physician and RN needs for each procedure. Initiates the appropriate checks when setting up equipment for GI procedure(s). Keeping BLS current and being able to assist if needed in an emergency as evidenced by observation and feedback. Reports actual/potential problems to the appropriate individual(s) as evidenced by observation and feedback. Setup selected equipment and supplies for Endoscopy procedures as evidenced by observation and has basic problem-solving knowledge of all Endoscopy equipment and can troubleshoot during malfunction as evidenced by observation and feedback. Assists with the workflow of the unit, cleaning and restocking of procedure room after each patient and assists RN with all chargeable supplies with assurance of charge capture. All other duties as assigned. Additional Requirements Required: Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent in General Studies Preferred: Certification - Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associations, Inc. (SGNA) Certification - Accredited University or accredited training professionals Experience - 1+ years of Endoscopy Experience Scheduling Requirements: Requires the ability to work assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department. Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or up to 100 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time), and or up to 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances.
