The Dental Hygienist examines patients' teeth and gums, cleans teeth, educates patients on oral hygiene, and administers local anesthesia. They also take dental X-rays and maintain patient records.
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited dental hygiene school and hold a license to practice in Ohio. Certification in CPR and passing the National and Northeast Regional Boards are also required.
Summary: Provides oral health care, dental health education, and remediable intraoral procedures to patients in the hospital clinic.
Essential Functions: Examines patients' teeth and gums to identify any oral health issues. Cleans teeth by removing plaque, tartar, and stains. Educates patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and provides advice on diet and lifestyle choices that can impact oral health. Administers local anesthesia and applies cavity-preventive agents such as fluoride and sealants. Takes and develops dental X-rays to help diagnose dental problems. Keeps detailed patient records and maintains a clean and sterile work environment. Education Requirement: Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene school, required. Bachelor's Degree, preferred. Licensure Requirement: Licensed to practice in the State of Ohio, required. Passed the National Boards, required. Passed the Northeast Regional Boards, required.
Certified in CPR, required.
Robust communication skills, required. Demonstrates ability to treat and teach healthy and medically compromised patients. Possesses strong manual dexterity.
