- Job Title: Histology Technologist - IRP - James Laboratory Support Services Department: James | Martha Morehouse Medical Plaza Lab Scope of Position The Histology Technologist 2 - IRP provides histological services to the dermatology department physicians performing MOHS surgeries.
- The Histology Technologist 2 - IRP will also provide support to the Histology laboratory located within the division of Surgical Pathology.
- The Histology Technologist 2 – IRP will be responsible for processes involving tissue embedding, sorting, cutting, and staining slides of tissue samples for diagnosis by physicians and surgical pathologists.
- This staff member reports to the Director of the Dermatology Department Lab and to the James Clinical Laboratory Manager.
- The James Dermatology Lab is staffed Monday through Friday as needed to provide services for Mohs surgeries as scheduled.
- The Histology Technologist 2 – IRP would provide services as needed to fill vacancies on clinic days and/or large cases where an additional Histotechnologist is needed.
Position Summary
The Histology Technologist 2 - IRP provides histological services to the Dermatology Departments and to the main Histology Lab. This position is responsible for ensuring that Mohs tissue specimens are optimally processed, oriented, and embedded appropriately (according to tissue type) during MOHS procedures. In Histology, the Technologist prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include the following: fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of human tissue for evaluation. Additional duties involve general paperwork, equipment maintenance, assisting with quality control and assurance metrics, procedural audits, accreditation preparation, training and troubleshoot both mechanical and human errors and/or malfunctions. Minimum Qualifications For Hire: HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification preferred. OR a baccalaureate degree with a combination of 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry. OR an associate degree, with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry. Mohs experience preferred.
