  • Learn more: https://www.stmarysregional.com What You’ll Do As an Occupational Therapist Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in patient care by implementing treatment plans, supporting patient education, and ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Responsibilities include: Implementing patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful manner while maintaining high‑quality performance.
  • Providing appropriate assistance, verbal cueing, and support to optimize patient performance.
  • Instructing patients and caregivers in treatment procedures, home programs, and the use of adaptive or special equipment using clear verbal and/or written instructions.
  • Documenting patient performance accurately and efficiently in the medical record per policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Reviewing patient medical records and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members regarding patient condition and progress.
  • Communicating effectively with the supervising Occupational Therapist regarding patient performance, changes in condition, and goal attainment.
  • Demonstrating competence in preparing and using adaptive and assistive equipment (e.g., lift devices, gait belts, orthotics, prosthetics, oxygen tanks, paraffin, splinting supplies).
  • Cleaning and storing equipment according to hospital and department policies.
  • Practicing effective problem‑solving and keeping appropriate team members informed of pertinent issues.
  • Responding appropriately to stressful or emergency situations while following policies and maintaining composure.
  • Demonstrating knowledge and compliance with isolation, biohazard, and PPE procedures.
  • Providing safe, appropriate assistance during patient transfers and requesting help when needed.
  • Delivering care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and elderly patients in accordance with competency standards.

Qualifications

Requirements

Candidates must hold an associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant and be eligible for or currently hold an OTA license in Oklahoma. A BLS certification is also required for this position.
