- Learn more: https://www.stmarysregional.com What You’ll Do As an Occupational Therapist Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in patient care by implementing treatment plans, supporting patient education, and ensuring accurate documentation.
- Responsibilities include: Implementing patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful manner while maintaining high‑quality performance.
- Providing appropriate assistance, verbal cueing, and support to optimize patient performance.
- Instructing patients and caregivers in treatment procedures, home programs, and the use of adaptive or special equipment using clear verbal and/or written instructions.
- Documenting patient performance accurately and efficiently in the medical record per policy and regulatory guidelines.
- Reviewing patient medical records and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members regarding patient condition and progress.
- Communicating effectively with the supervising Occupational Therapist regarding patient performance, changes in condition, and goal attainment.
- Demonstrating competence in preparing and using adaptive and assistive equipment (e.g., lift devices, gait belts, orthotics, prosthetics, oxygen tanks, paraffin, splinting supplies).
- Cleaning and storing equipment according to hospital and department policies.
- Practicing effective problem‑solving and keeping appropriate team members informed of pertinent issues.
- Responding appropriately to stressful or emergency situations while following policies and maintaining composure.
- Demonstrating knowledge and compliance with isolation, biohazard, and PPE procedures.
- Providing safe, appropriate assistance during patient transfers and requesting help when needed.
- Delivering care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and elderly patients in accordance with competency standards.

Qualifications
