About the Role

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our clinical team on a part‑time basis in Richmond, VA. The successful clinician will deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred mental health services across post‑acute, long‑term care and assisted living settings as well as outpatient consultations where required. This role requires collaborative practice with nursing staff, primary clinicians, and interdisciplinary teams to support optimal behavioural health outcomes for residents and patients. Schedule This is a part‑time position with a flexible schedule determined by facility coverage needs and mutual agreement. The role will include scheduled daytime visits, on‑site coverage at assigned facilities. Core Duties Perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments, risk evaluations and mental health screenings for residents and patients across assigned settings Develop, implement and monitor evidence‑based treatment plans including psychotherapy, psychopharmacology and non‑pharmacologic interventions appropriate to the population Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications within scope of practice and in accordance with Virginia regulations; conduct medication reviews, reconciliation and monitoring for side effects and interactions Provide crisis intervention, de‑escalation and management of behavioural disturbances in collaboration with facility staff Order, interpret and act upon relevant diagnostic tests; coordinate referrals to psychiatric specialists, therapists and community resources as needed Document patient encounters accurately and promptly in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), ensuring clear communication of clinical reasoning, risk plans and follow‑up arrangements Collaborate closely with nursing leadership, primary care clinicians, social workers and other interdisciplinary team members to support care planning, transitions and safe discharges Participate in case reviews, care conferences, quality improvement activities and infection prevention initiatives as applicable Provide education and clinical support to on‑site staff, residents and families regarding behavioural health, medication effects and strategies for supportive care Maintain required clinical documentation, comply with regulatory and facility policies, and assist with chart audits and peer review when requested Qualifications and Required Skills Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nurse Practitioner studies with PMHNP specialty from an accredited program Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner licence in Virginia and current DEA registration where required for prescribing Certification as a PMHNP and current basic life support (BLS) certification; additional certifications as required by facility policy Experience in behavioural health, geriatrics, post‑acute care, long‑term care or similar settings preferred Demonstrated proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems and strong, timely documentation practices Excellent clinical judgement, therapeutic communication skills and the ability to work autonomously while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams Culturally sensitive, trauma‑informed approach and commitment to patient‑centered, dignified care What Success Looks Like Timely, comprehensive psychiatric assessments and appropriate, person‑centred interventions that support resident and patient safety and wellbeing Clear, accurate documentation in the EMR and effective communication with facility staff, residents, patients and families Active participation in and measurable contributions to quality improvement initiatives related to behavioural health outcomes Strong, collaborative relationships with facility leadership and multidisciplinary teams that promote patient‑centered care Perks for Our Healthcare Professionals Competitive part‑time compensation reflective of skills and experience Flexible scheduling to support work–life balance and professional commitments Clinical autonomy within a supportive, multidisciplinary team environment Comprehensive professional and administrative support, including assistance with credentialing and billing where applicable Access to discounted Medical Malpractice Insurance and other benefits as applicable Equal Opportunity Employer/Veterans/Disabled All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or on the basis of disability. disability. Requirements

Requires a Master's or Doctoral degree in Nurse Practitioner studies with a PMHNP specialty and an active Virginia NP license. Candidates must hold PMHNP and BLS certifications and possess experience in behavioral health or geriatric care.
