The Behavioral Health Technician provides direct support to clients by maintaining a safe, structured, and recovery-oriented environment throughout the continuum of care. They are responsible for monitoring client well-being, facilitating daily routines, and ensuring accurate documentation within the electronic health record system.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be at least 21 years of age. A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification are required, with preference given to those with experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment.

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) plays a key role in supporting clients throughout the full continuum of care—from admission through discharge. This role ensures a safe, structured, and recovery-oriented environment by providing direct support, monitoring client well-being, and reinforcing treatment goals. BHTs partner closely with clinical and medical teams to deliver consistent, compassionate, and accountable care.
Client Support & Engagement Support clients with daily living activities, routines, and scheduled programming Provide orientation to new clients, including program expectations and structure Encourage participation in recovery programming and communicate observations to the care team Assist with or co-facilitate groups under clinical supervision Respond appropriately to client needs, including emotional or behavioral escalations
Safety & Compliance Monitor client safety and adherence to program expectations Conduct vital signs, drug screens, and breathalyzer testing per protocol Maintain accurate documentation and chain-of-custody standards Complete safety rounds and environmental checks Follow all facility safety, emergency, and infection control protocols
Operations & Documentation Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the EHR Support front desk, scheduling, and general administrative tasks Assist with facility organization, meals, and daily operations
Transportation (If Applicable) Transport clients to appointments, recovery meetings, and approved community activities in accordance with state regulations Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet company driving requirements
Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Must be at least 21 years of age Valid driver’s license (if transporting clients) CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days) Ability to pass background and motor vehicle checks
Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field 1+ year experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, or residential care Familiarity with 12-Step programs, recovery principles, or co-occurring disorders Personal or professional experience with recovery (if applicable)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements Residential treatment setting with moderate activity level Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs with assistance) Ability to respond to emergencies and support clients in crisis Ability to multitask and maintain composure in fast-paced environments
