About the Role

The Therapist provides individual, group, and family counseling services for individuals receiving treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. This position is responsible for conducting clinical assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, facilitating evidence-based therapeutic interventions, maintaining timely clinical documentation, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary treatment team to support successful recovery outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Treatment Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and substance use evaluations. Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing ASAM criteria and evidence-based practices. Provide individual, group, and family counseling sessions. Facilitate psychoeducational groups and relapse prevention programming. Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans as clinically indicated. Respond appropriately to clinical crises while maintaining patient safety. Documentation & Compliance Complete all clinical documentation accurately and within required timeframes. Maintain treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and clinical records in accordance with Iowa HHS, Joint Commission, Medicaid, commercial payer, and company standards. Maintain compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and all ethical standards governing behavioral healthcare. Care Coordination Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings. Collaborate with nursing, medical providers, recovery support staff, and case management to ensure coordinated patient care. Assist with discharge planning and aftercare coordination. Communicate with referral sources, family members, and community providers as appropriate. Professional Responsibilities Maintain professional licensure and continuing education requirements. Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training, and quality improvement activities. Support a positive, respectful, and recovery-focused treatment environment. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, or a related behavioral health field. Current Iowa credential or license appropriate for providing substance use disorder counseling (including CADC, tCADC, IADC, LISW, LMHC, LMFT, or other qualifying Iowa credential). Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Strong understanding of substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, and recovery principles. Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Independent Iowa clinical licensure (LISW, LMHC, or LMFT). Advanced addiction certification (IADC or LIADC). Experience in residential treatment, detoxification, or ASAM Levels 3.5 and 3.7. Experience with Iowa Medicaid documentation requirements. Knowledge of Joint Commission standards. Training in Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), or trauma-focused interventions.
