The sonographer is responsible for diagnosing diseases using ultrasound technology and coordinating patient medical history with imaging procedures. They also perform equipment maintenance, maintain patient logs, and provide clerical support within a safe clinical environment.
Candidates must be registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and hold a degree from an accredited ultrasound school. Experience with EMR systems and X-ray procedures is preferred.
General Purpose of Job: Diagnose absence or presence of disease in the most efficient and effective means implementation of innovative and adaptive approaches to reach diagnostic conclusions with the use of sound. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. Analyze disease processes with the use of ultrasound through the selection of appropirate procedures and techniques. Coordinate past and present medical history of patient in reference to ultrasound examination. Schedule and instruct the patient in reference to ultrasound. Review current imaging techniques and interpretations to assure current information. Furnish occasional immediate results to appropriate medical personnel derived from ultrasound procedure. Perform basic equipment maintenance. Compiles daily and monthly log of patient activity. Performs clerical duties as appropriate (answer phones, check-in, scanning, etc.) Maintains an environment of safety Job Requirements General Requirements Registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), Work Experience X-ray experience preferred Experience with an EMR preferred Education Graduate from accredited ultrasound school Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated abilities for: selection and use of appropriate transducers, anatomy demonstrated accurately and measurements Ability to work in an EMR environment Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, phycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients serviced in her/his assigned service area as related to the principle duties and responsibilities of the position. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.
